What Coffee Brewer Is Best For You

Over the years, I have owned around 12 different brewers and if there is one thing I have learned it's this.

There is no one perfect brewer for ever person. And anyone that tells you this is crazy.

There are WAY to many people in the world with varying coffee needs. Some of us love to travel, others brew coffee for groups and some love the science behind it all. Today we are going to talk about the best coffee brewer for you depending on your personal needs. By the end, you will know what is the best brewer for you. I also created a YouTube video if you learn better through visuals!

HERE WE GO!

THE CHEMEX

Best for those who brew for groups and for themselves

The Chemex brewer is a classic. It has a sleek design that brings life to any

counter it sits on. The chemex is great if you want to brew for larger groups. With multiple sizes, 6, 8, and 10 cup it will support you in any party. There is a lot to like about this brewer. It is very simple to use. It also is relatively cheap at about $40 for the brewer.

The Chemex also does a fantastic job at creating single cups of coffee for yourself when you're not brewing for a whole group. Overall, this is a fantastic brewer. It is great if you're just getting into coffee or if you want to explore the world of coffee more. If you are someone that wants to entertain with groups this is the brewer for you!

Aeropress

Great for those that like to travel

The Aeropress is a classic on the go brewer. There are now two versions. First, is

the classic which is a 4 "cup" brewer and the second is the more portable Go which is a 3 "cup" method. This brewer is fantastic if you like to travel. Everything you need is included inside the small travel container and it fits in any carry-on bag, backpack or duffel.

The Aeropress also will do a great job of making you a coffee at home, but only for you. This is NOT the brewer for a group unless you want to be cranking out drinks for 3 hours while everyone else is having fun. The sleek and simple design make it a classic brewer. There are many recipes online for this brewer that will give you a great starting point for a daily brew.

When it comes to portability, the Aeropress cannot be beat and it is our cheapest brew at only $32 for the entire set up. Whether you are flying to another continent or road tripping across the country, you won't ever be mad that you threw this brewer into your bag.

Hario V60

Great overall, aside from travel

The Hario V60 is a sleek and classic brewer. If you frequent coffee shops, you are

bound to run into this brewer at some point.

This brewer is a fantastic introduction to a home brewing set up. There are multiple designs including glass, ceramic and plastic so it will fit any lifestyle. In order to get the most out of this grinder, you will need to invest in a kettle of some type, filters and a good catch device. If you are just getting started in coffee or are looking to get a little nerdier with coffee this is a fantastic brewer for you.

The price ranges from around $20-50 depending on which brewer you get, but this brewer will last you for a very long time.

This is not a great brewer for travel. The nature of the glass and ceramic make it a little to easy to break on a flight. You could get away with taking it on a roadtrip, but it would be quite the pain to take backpacking.

Overall, this is a wonderful brewer if you want to start to feed the inner coffee nerd inside of you. No matter how long you have been interested in coffee this brewer will not be a bad choice.

Phoenix 70

Durable but expensive

If you are a true coffee nerd then this is the brewer for you. This is a fantastic and very durable brewer.

The phoenix 70 is what we at Portola use. It can be a little finicky at first but it creates an incredible beverage. The filter is double-walled and releases the delicious flavors of your beans while holding back the unwanted bitter oils.

Yes, this brewer is a little expensive at around $60 for the brewer alone. No filters. No catch device. But what you get for that money is a brewer that is very durable and wont break on you. Granted, this would not be the easiest to take on a trip but you could throw it in any bag and it won't break. There are so many benefits to this brewer and not to many drawbacks.

Overall, if you want to nerd out a little with coffee and get all fancy with your coffee equipment this could definitely be the brewer for you.

In conclusion, there are ALOT of fantastic brewers on the market these days. What is important to remember is not what is the best overall brewer, but what is the best brewer for YOU. Do you travel? Do you brew for groups? Are you a big coffee nerd? By narrowing down what you need from a brewer, you will end up with the perfect device instead of being like myself and owning half a dozen brewers.
